LOUIS LOPES : Combined Medium Artist
© All Rights Reserved

As a multi-disciplinary fine artist, I create mixed medium works of art,
combining painting, sculpture, photography and video. I also create
installations and performance art. The central motif in my works is a
symbolic configuration related to figurative gestures that I have
incorporated into my art works.

I created my trademark, the configuration symbol, during the late 1970’s. When I moved to New York City and became a part of the East Village art scene, I used the linear aspects of this symbol as my street art tag. My symbol was widely viewed on the streets of New York City and my art work was shown extensively in the East Village and in national and international galleries during the 1980’s. My symbol was also featured in films and in the Avia tennis shoe commercial of that period.

Although I have remained for the most part out of the established artistic
mainstream since the early 1990’s, I have continued to create new works of art, photographic projects, and have resumed the cross-country road trips which had been a part of my life since the 1970’s. I have also exhibited at alternative art spaces and self-produced exhibitions of my art works.

Over the last 15 years, I have continued my development with
multi-disciplinary and new genre works of art on a multitude of fine art
projects that are currently ready to be exhibited. As a performance and
video artist, I have been assembling cross-country video documentation for an upcoming performance art series that will include re-adaptations of
previously performed works. These new works of art and performances will be showcased out of my mobile multi-media tractor trailer unit on a
cross-country tour in late 2008 through 2009.

My commitment to my creative process has continued for over three decades. The configuration symbol is what my art works are built around and is the single most defining representation of my work.
